After the Dodgers pulled off a comeback win in game one, LA opened up a can of whoop “you already know” in game two, there are many thoughts that could be running through the Yankees minds at this moment. Add in the fact that the Dodgers beat the Yankees 4-1 in last season’s World Series and the first thought could be this:
Long term, are the Yankees on the same level with the Dodgers? This is a question that should be asked at this point. If these teams were to meet in the 2025 World Series, is anyone actually going to pick the Yankees to beat the Dodgers? At this point in time, that is a hard no.
This series may serve as a wake up call to the Bronx Bombers. Keep in mind that the Yankees are handling business in the AL East. Yet, when it comes to competing with your primary rival in the National League, it is obvious that the Dodgers are supreme. Unfortunately for Yankees fans, that gap may actually be getting wider as the Dodgers continue to stack and attract top tier talent into the organization.
A win on Sunday could offer some short term solace for the Yankees. Yet I think that the front office in New York realizes this Dodgers organization has reached a new level. So instead of building to beat the Red Sox, Rays, etc, perhaps it is time for the Yankees to take a page from what the Padres and Phillies are doing to stay competitive with the juggernaut out west.
