When these teams met in Queens a couple weeks ago, I posed the following question…
Is this a potential October classic in the making?
Well, since that point in time, the Mets have moved into the top spot in the National League passing by the Phillies, Cubs, and Dodgers. The Mets now only trail the Tigers for the best record in baseball.
A second way to potentially look at these teams is in run differential (RD). Albeit close, the Dodgers currently have a +75 RD as compared to the Mets +72 RD. These RDs are currently the fourth and fifth highest in the majors behind the Cubs, Yankees, and Tigers respectively.
It is still only June. However, both of these teams are trending towards being in the mix in October. So when it comes to having home field advantage in the future, these head to head games matter greatly.
