The Phillies are cold. Ice cold. As in 1-9 in the last 10 games kind of cold. During this rough stretch, the Phillies have slipped to 4.5 games behind the Mets for the lead in the NL East. It hasn’t helped the Phils that the Mets are also 8-2 in the last 10. The good news for Philadelphia is that the Phillies are still in the wild card mix even though the team has struggled over the last two weeks.
The Cubs are fresh off a series loss to the team with the current best record in baseball, the Detroit Tigers. If the season ended today, the Cubs would be the only team from the NL Central to make the postseason. Although both the Cardinals and Brewers are closely behind the wild card teams, it can serve as a stark reminder that these divisions are not created equal. The only way to guarantee to play in October, is to take the NL Central.
