Morning Sports Recap: UConn Did It, NBA Stretch Run

UConn women’s basketball has returned to the mountaintop with an 82-59 drilling of South Carolina in the national championship game. Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong, and Azzi Fudd combined for 65 points on 24 of 46 shooting from the field. Although this was only a 10-point game at the half, this one never seemed in doubt as the Huskies took the lead midway through the first quarter and never trailed again.

From a betting perspective, even though more money landed on UConn against the spread, the books didn’t take much of a beating. There was some late action that came in on South Carolina, but the overall numbers were not huge.

From a competitive perspective, there seems to be some direct connections to other sports that we have discussed over the last several months. This is in regards to NIL, the transfer portal, and athletic budgets.

NBA: The NBA games in the Western Conference should deliver a fun ride this week. Just take a moment and check out the current NBA standings of teams 3-8 in the West:

Lakers 48-30
Nuggets 47-32
Clippers 46-32
Warriors 46-32
Timberwolves 46-32

There is zero margin for error for any of these teams. With so many NBA teams in close contention in the standings and tiebreaker scenarios coming into play, I will look to include some of those critical NBA games into our schedule this week. So expect a few changes in the NBA schedule here and there.
